DAY 1 – 7 easy ways to detox without having to detox

I can’t believe we’re here again already and what a whirl of a year it has been. For me it’s involved moving back to Sydney, working again after 10 months off. Living by the beach and a massive shift away from alcohol and late nights. Its been fun, challenging, eye opening and the biggest yet. I’m excited to see what 2014 will bring, I can feel it will be huge.

So the new years resolution chatter has been going for a week or 2 now and maybe you’ve spun a few lines too or maybe you haven’t. I laugh every time I hear someone say they’re going to ‘DETOX’. Don’t get me wrong, a detox can be awesome but with little research the majority are done in the wrong way, with the wrong ingredients and can do more harm than good if you’re not careful.

To me, I don’t really see the point in ‘detoxing’ it’s really just another day of making informed choices for my body. No labels, no special names, just eating fresh, healthy and delicious food from whole grains, meats and fruits/vegetables. So I’ve put together 7  easy ways to detox without having to detox, to show you that detoxing is all about the ingredients you choose.

DAY 1 to ‘not detoxing’: Lemon and ginger water

This drink is delicious. If you struggle to drink water, adding lemon and ginger or other fruits is a great way to add flavour. You can prepare the night before and keep in the fridge. It’s natures cordial, the way it should be.

I have talked about the benefits of adding lemon water to your diet before here. And I will tell you again. This drink will cure your crazy New Years hangover. If you’ve been drinking a lot, it will put you on the med. If you haven’t been drinking a lot, it will put you on another level.

Why it’s important

  • Lemons do wonders to flush out toxins from the body
  • Great for clearing up skin
  • Packed with vitamin C
  • Will improve your digestion
  • Ginger is Asia’s most prized herb and has been used for centuries in herbal medicine
  • Ginger is great for the gut
  • Ginger is anti-inflamatory

To make this ‘no detox’ drink

  • Grab your favourite water bottle
  • Wash your lemon, scrubbing the skin
  • Chop lemon in half
  • Peel a thumb size piece of ginger and chop
  • Add ginger to water bottle and muddle (I used the end of a rolling pin)
  • Add lemon and muddle
  • Fill with water
    Drink immediately OR refrigerate for a few hours for a stronger flavour

Drink this

In the morning before your coffee – I guarantee it will give you a burst of energy bigger than the largest cup of coffee.
