This smoothie bowl incorporates every type of berry, there are no rules here.

Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, add them all or reduce down to one and focus on a particular flavour (and colour).

I added the Acai too for an extra berry hit.  Acai is a highly nutritious berry from the Amazon in Brazil. When I was travelling around Brazil in 2009 we were introduced to Acai as a hangover cure. It worked and it worked well. The locals blended up what was very similar to a smoothie bowl, but they added Coca Cola (something I didn’t know they added until my friend told me years later!). The Acai was blended with ice and banana and topped with granola, honey and more banana. Let’s just say, for $1 a cup for this 25 year old it hit the spot and became a daily habit.

Years on, I’m still in love with smoothie bowls although they’ve changed a little and definitely do not involve any type of soft drink.  But the Acai remains. Artificial ingredients aside, I’d say my version is 10 times better and talk about flavour town.
